Governor Nathan Deal will sign a bill that would improve child safety in child care centers all over the state.
The General Assembly passed a bill that calls for fingerprint background checks for every individual employed by a licensed childcare facility. These employees would be subject to a rigorous background check and undergo FBI fingerprinting checks.
The goal of the legislation is to prevent individuals with prior felony convictions from working around children.
Under current law, only the directors of childcare facilities are required to pass the more comprehensive finger print background check. The new law would require all employees to get fingerprinted and pass an inclusive background check before being allowed to work at one of Georgia’s 6,300 licensed childcare centers.
